Serendipity & a Plot Twist

As some of you already know, my initial departure date of August 21 got pushed back to August 30 so that the generator can be repaired. After having lunch with my 92-year-old father and his wife Betty, and being shocked by his appearance – he has lost 20 lbs in a month or so – I decided that the road isn’t calling me nearly as strongly as my family.

New plan: stick around in NH, use my father’s house as my country get-away (he and Betty live in a really great assisted living place) so that I’m close at hand for appointments and to bring him tempting soups and smoothies. Their house could use some TLC after being unoccupied for a while, including some pest management of the sort that a clowder of cats might be really good at.

His first diagnostic test is next Wednesday, almost certainly to be followed by more as we figure out why he is having difficulty swallowing. Woodcrest is working on providing meals that are more appealing and an easier texture for him to manage. All of us are feeling good about this plan, and I am grateful to have the time and flexibility to make myself available to support them.

I hope all of you are well, whole, and as healthy as you can be. Life is so precious!
